A short time ago I gave some thought to the URL shortening company called ad.fly. If you are not familiar with what these types of service do, when you have an extra long URL to for example give to someone, instead of it having too many characters in it to be practical to copy and type in yourself, you can have the URL shortened into a much easier to remember version.
People who often Tweet on Twitter, or post links on blogs tend to sometimes be short on space (Twitter allows a maximum of 140 characters for example).
The beauty of it to us website owners though is that when a visitor to your site clicks one of the ad.fly links, they, ie: you, get paid.
There are two types of links available, the less obtrusive version, which pays less, simply places a banner across the top of the target URLs page. The better paid advert temporarily displays an ad to the visitor, after which they are able to continue on to your links target. It costs them nothing, but the long term passive income ad.fly can provide can be enough to pay a hobbyists web hosting fees.
There is also an .api available to those who have lots of links they wish to shorten, and of course eventually have people click in order to generate a monetary cash income, one of the main attractions of ad.fly is their regular payment schedule and their lengthy time in this relatively short-lived market. Ad.fly have proven themselves to be one of the most reliable, and also highest paying service providers.
